Tip of
the Trade
Course IDs in Blackboard will be changing as a result of the implementation of SAP Campus Management (CM). Currently, course IDs appear as course designator, hyphen, 3-digit semester/term number, hyphen, and 5-digit course reference number. For example, under the old conventions, a section of Accounting 201 scheduled for fall of 2006 may have been listed with an ID of ACC201-064-12345. The “064” portion represents the fourth term (fall) in the calendar year 2006.
In CM semesters numbered one through four have been replaced with an academic year model with fall semester first, numbered 300, followed by spring, 500 and summer, 700. Revising the example above accordingly would yield a course ID of ACC201-06300-12345678. Note also that the five digit course reference numbers have also been replaced in CM with 8-digit “event” numbers.
Nearly all fall 2006 courses were created in Blackboard before the CM implementation. Therefore, courses currently in Blackboard for semesters up to and including fall 2006 will continue to use the OLD course ID format. Courses added for fall 2006 from this point forward and all future semesters will use the new course ID format.
