CMU Obtains Site
License for Respondus 2.0
By: William
C. Low, Ph. D.
The
Blackboard course management system
provides a fairly flexible environment
for on-line testing, homework, and
practice. Instructors learn very
quickly, however, that the creation
of these tests by using Blackboard's
test canvas is very time consuming
because the program has not yet provided
a convenient way to upload questions
that already exist in Word or Word
Perfect documents. The Respondus
test generation package does allow
conversion of word processor documents
into Blackboard compatible formats
and provides a way to upload these
as ready-to-use, on-line tests. It
also provides a more user friendly
and quicker test creation environment. (MORE) |

Classroom Assessment
Techniques as a Feedback Tool
By: Lisa
Nienkark
How
do I know my students are learning?
How will my students know if they
are learning? Their performance on
quizzes, exams, and projects will
give both of us an indication, but
by then it may be too late to correct
the situation. Feedback at the time
of grading often contributes little
to learning because it comes too
late to take corrective action. How
can I give students timely feedback
without compromising the scope and
rigor of the class? (MORE)
TechnoCATs – Building
a Better CAT
By:
Lisa Nienkark
How
can technology facilitate the
use of CATs in the classroom?
Though
the top five CATs require
low levels of time and energy,
other extremely effective CATs
require a mix of low, medium,
and high levels of time and
energy. Appropriate use of
technology can significantly
reduce the amount of time and
energy spent implementing all
CATs. Devorah Lieberman coined
the term technoCAT to refer
to CATS that employ technology.
When technology is integrated
appropriately, instructors
have more options: they can
collect data both inside and
outside of class. (MORE) |
