Maximizing
Learning: A Resource for Engaging Adult
Learners
By: Todd
Zakrajsek and Regina
Mitchell
Although Maximizing
Learning was written four years ago,
it is still a solid resource regarding
principles of adult learning. Adults
come to our classes with a variety of
learning styles and instructional needs
that are very different from students
who enter the university right out of
high school. As such, it is important
to be familiar with characteristics of
adult learning and to use principles
that complement their preferred styles
of learning in every class session.

End
of the Semester
By: Louis
Schmier
"Ladies
and Gentlemen, start your engines." The
roar is deafening.
Tires screech.
Racers peel out and start tearing around
the track..
We're watching
the end-of-term Academic Roadrace 500!
If you read
the student journals, eaves drop on their
conversations, look at their faces, peer
into their eyes, and notice their walk
you'd know what I mean. Our campuses
are turning into very uneducational pressurized
tanks.

New and Little-Known
Features in Blackboard
By: Jeremy
T. Bond
The use
of Blackboard on and off campus at
Central Michigan University has continued
to increase. As with any system, a
large population of users gives rise
to a group of “power users.” Webopedia
(http://www.webopedia.com)
defines a power user as “someone
who has considerable experience with
computers and utilizes the most advanced
features of applications.” The
first part of this definition is not
necessarily a match, but the later
part fits perfectly with our power
user population.
