Exploding the Lecture :: CMU prof in the news

Personal narrative plays an important role in Mike Garver’s teaching style. Garver, a professor of marketing at Central Michigan University, often uses anecdotes from his own life in his lectures, according to one of his students. “It’s a good way to, in his words, ‘Put a movie in your mind,’ ” says Mike Hoover, a senior at Central Michigan, who is currently taking Garver’s course in market research.

Crafty 8 Year Old Schools CMU Students

Katie Sue Otteman isn’t your average entrepreneur. CMU Students in Professor Jeff Hoyle’s Marketing Strategies for Entrepreneurs (MKT221/ENT221) class recently found out why. The fact that she is only eight years old is just one of the many reasons that Katie is above average. Hoyle invited Katie into his classroom to drive home the lesson of what an entrepreneur is, what they look like and why. Otteman wasn’t exactly what they had envisioned.
